On June 8, 2010, Jurimex managing partner Yuriy Krainiak was among the speakers of the conference “New Media” with his report “Copyright Protection on the Internet”. This conference became a part of the Television and Radio Fair-2010, a business forum annually calling in media industry professionals of Ukraine, which this year took place on June 8-10 in Kyiv.
Leaders of all-Ukrainian and regional television and radio companies, Internet service providers, and representatives of print and on-line media were brought together by the event. The discussion sessions covered such important issues as intellectual property protection legal aspects faced by new media, particularities of building relationships with the target audience on the Internet, and national and foreign experience in organization of convergent journalism.
In his report Yuriy Krainiak highlighted some questions related to the use of copyright objects in the Web. Specifically, the lawyer presented the essence of the Internet from the legal perspective, defined its relationships’ participants and told about copyright objects' features and legal acts on copyright protection.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Krainiak noticed: “The current unrestricted Internet development can be viewed as a nightmare for traditional understanding of copyrights. The main problem is that the Internet functions based on the information exchange via copying it on one source and pasting it on another. The national legislation hasn't caught up with the Internet development yet and hasn’t been adhered to the particularities of the use of copyright objects in the Web. These questions are of an acute problem especially for some new media working by getting information from the Internet. Conferences like this help media market players receive useful information of legal, technical, and organizational nature and, without a doubt, have positive influence on the market development in general.”
